Social Networking surpasses the addiction of Alcohol & Drug symptoms

Here is something we can chew on for a bit

With Social Networking being a popular outlet to searching friends, checking updates, product search, reviews & feedback from your connections, did you realize you may be addicted?

A study conducted by the University of Maryland’s International Center for Media & the public agenda, Salzburg Global Seminar’s Salzburg Academy on Media & Global change has brought out some interesting details on this new addiction.

The scientist deprived the heavy internet users from any social media outlet such as; Internet, Mobile, ipads, Twitter, facebook, email & so on for 24 hours.  The volunteers were allowed to write down notes, read books & no use of any sort of hi-tech technology.

With their surprise, the volunteers quickly started to exhibit dangerous syndromes, which are typical for both alcohol & drug addictions.  Not just psychological but also physical.  Anxiety, fear, coldness, feeling of isolation, feeling of “being on a bad diet.

You now may be asking, “Why in the world are you writing about this particular subject as social media is one of your main marketing of your products”?  We have to realize that Social Networking is the new form of Google when searching for the next vehicle purchase.

According to facebook for the US alone, 5 Million users are under the age of 13, 80 Million are Female & almost 67 Million are Men.

20 % of the US population; independent, tech savvy, engaged & demanding (19-31 years old) generation, this is a new breed of consumer when purchasing a vehicle.  By 2012 this generation will account for 40 percent of the car buying population according to the Deloitte’s Survey, which brings me to my next point.

Roughly 70% of those customers within that age bracket are claimed to sway a friend’s vehicle purchase which they also have a large amount of influence of their parents. 61% claim they directly influence their parents final purchase decision for their next vehicle.  88.7% ask their own friends for their opinions about a vehicles brand or model before buying a car and 79.6% claim of those respondents that their friends have a big influence on their purchase decision as well.

67% of this newly engaged consumer, look for information on a vehicle brand or model on social networking sites, which is up from 25% from the 2009 survey by Doloitte.  The research conducted further by this engaged consumer is more broader & deeper; 86% use search engines, 87% visit the auto dealers manufacturer’s website & 88% visit vehicle reference sites to compare features & prices before making their purchase.

With this consumer, there is no second chance! 52.4% of this engaged high tech savvy consumer say a bad experience with a dealer would cause them to never consider that brand of car again!

This is where social media networking is huge to the auto dealer themselves and if done properly, you can make a huge positive impact. Yes, you can slap up a facebook fan page, twitter account and so on but if there is no properly set social media strategy in play your dealership is reaching into thin air.

What are you waiting for?

Still twiddling your fingers debating on taking your dealership social?

With 78% of small business owners stating they are planning on spending more of their marketing budget for Social Media as they did in 2010 is huge! Why still twiddle your fingers debating on taking your dealership social?

With the current use of social media tools such as facebook, linked in, twitter & blogs; a staggering 69% currently use social media at their companies. Business’s that currently don’t take on social media indicate that 41% of them are looking to implement social media in the next 3 months.

Social media is an outlet to reach out to more customers virtually without having them come to your front door.  Due to the fact that it’s more convenient for the consumer to research, review & interact with the business owner/ business via social media.

With that in mind, only 36.5% of the small business owners claim they only update their social media content once a week! Social media is a full time commitment for it to work properly for your business & fan base. This falls into the mistakes that dealers make by only trying it for a short period of time then claim it does not work for them or they grab an internal individual that has no idea of a social media strategy to represent your business.

Having a fully dedicated team will help improve your social media efforts & having the proper social media strategy set in line for an improved impact for the dealership socially.

This is where Ignite XDS comes in play.  Our dedicated social media expert’s creates a uniquely tailored social media strategy daily, weekly, monthly & yearly for your dealership socially.  Ignite XDS and their variety of outlets helps not just create all of your social media accounts however will manage them daily to multiple times per day! Fan page YES! Fan base NO!

Each morning I scan through many fan pages for dealerships nationwide and check out their amazing fan page just to get an idea what dealers are doing within each region.  I then to start to notice a trend on 95% of all the fan pages I come across, very little fan base.

After scratching my head a little & digging deeper all I see is constant post about cars, vehicle incentives, automatic feeds, etc. I think you get my point on that one.

But what I also notice is the lack of interest & interaction with the fan base they have if any at all. Do you really think that your fans are all about your overloaded car posts ? Nothing fun or engaging, just a bunch of car stuff over and over again.

The consumer is all ready bombarded with loads of advertisement of why buy here, buy today or the last post was 3 months ago. Why do it on your fan page? This is your business! This is starting to become a common mistake for dealers nationwide when trying to manage their facebook fan page.

Either it is handed off internally within the office to be handled and managed or just forgotten about. You must keep in mind as I pointed out earlier that there is little fan base. Fans don’t come to you because you are there. Now this is part of the efforts needed (blood sweat & tears) to create a fan base and that is part of the reason why the dealership fan pages fail. Your dealership needs a Social Media Strategy set in place for not just your fan page but your Twitter & You Tube too to create a fan base.

Here is a great example of a dealer that has taken their facebook fan page to the next level & created a Social Media Strategy for the entire year!  www.facebook.com/thomasvilleford

As you scroll through their page you don’t see a bunch of car stuff or automated feeds. There are a lot of everyday items posted to be fun & interesting. There is a lot of engagement from their fan base too.

Why neglect your fan page as this is a part of your dealerships advertisement & branding. Don’t have time to manage it or create a fan base! This is the secret sauce that Ignite XDS has & we can help your dealership get to the next level!

How many of your dealerships facebook fans are potential customers?

Yes you have an amazing looking fan page however how many are actually potential customers? Take a gander and scroll through your fans on your page and you will see what I am talking about. A good handful may be your close friends, family, co workers & a few other dealers that have a fan page too.

But the bottom line is, where are your potential customers?  They don’t just come to you because you are there and you have an amazing facebook page.  You may have a strategy created however what is being done with it? Are you overloading your feed with buy this, buy that, see us today, drive today etc? It doesn’t work that way! This goes for the article “Stop trying to “Sell” cars on facebook…! The “Big Mistakes” of Dealers gone social!

There is more work entailed into creating a successful social media strategy & for it to be effective and long lasting to create a fan base for potential customers.

Take a gander at this dealer below so you can see firsthand how Ignite XDS had taken their facebook page to a new level and created a fan base that exceeded their expectations! Why wait around for your competition when you can be ahead of them with our social media strategy!

Thomasville Ford www.facebook.com/thomasvilleford

Facebook is not your dealership website so stop trying to “Sell” Cars on Facebook!

I cannot tell you how many times I see in my newsfeed the amount of post from Auto Dealers still putting up “2% financing for 36 months” “Come down and buy a car today” “Test drive this car today” and so on. Enough is enough!

Take a moment to look at how many fans you have… And ask yourself “How many of these fans have my post blocked in their Newsfeed” or “Is anyone paying attention to my post”? I can tell you right now most have you blocked or they breeze right by your post.

Your fans did not come to Facebook to buy a car, they came to interact, socialize, review products, get advice  & see what is going on with their friends.

When I review a dealers website, (after hearing them go on about how much time they put into Facebook & updating it daily) I do see lots of post & activity however what is lacking is the actual interaction with the customer.  No comments & no feedback.  Just a bunch of over loaded car stuff.

Here below are some BIG MISTAKES dealers are facing when trying to go social or have all ready gone social.

  1. Setting up a friend page and not a Fan page.  This is one of the largest mistakes dealers are doing which is caused by the lack of taking the time to properly read up on the requirements & creating a social media strategy when going social.  This is a direct violation from Facebook.
  2. Incomplete Information created on the Fan Page. The Fan Page is representing your Dealership. Why have it incomplete with data and content for your fans to see.  Think of me coming to your dealership with my friends and you have no inventory, no chairs to sit in, Services Bays with no Service Techs & so on.  Take the time to complete the information.
  3. High Quality Graphic representing your dealership. A picture of your building in a small 100×100 pixel image is not the way to go.  Creating a   quality graphic representing your dealership helps represent you and the dealerships branding.
  4. Posting constantly about the promos you have with finance, check this car out, come test drive today, great lease deals; need I say more.   Customers are not here to buy a car. If you keep this up you will lose the fans you started with.
  5. Overloading the feed with OEM updates about the cars.  This is a major turn off to the consumer right there.  This goes back to constant post about  buying a car, test drive one today, me, me, me, & me… I think you get my point.
  6. No Fans? Creating a Facebook Fan Page is one thing, gaining your fans are another. What are you doing to get your fans? This is one of the largest mistakes dealers have encountered is the actual leg work that is entailed in a proper social media strategy.
  7. No time. You may have a Facebook fan page however there is no updates. If there are it was from a few months ago.  Taking your dealership social is not a once a year thing, it is daily, monthly and consistently.

Dealerships are taking the next level of creating a successful Social Media Strategy by outsourcing to companies that specialize in creating a Social Media Strategy for their Dealership.  There are companies out there that do take on the task of Social Media Strategy however fail the dealer due to the inability to gain the fans & properly marketing social media to its fullest advantage.

Let me show you some examples of a few dealers that have taken on the services of Ignite XDS and how engaging their Facebook fan pages are to their dealership.

Why wait around for your Dealership to go Social?

Why wait around for your Dealership to go Social and be behind your competition? Going Social has taken a new level of customer interaction.  The US Internet users spend 3x more minutes on blogs & Social Networks than viewing their email. So those email blast you are doing isn’t as effective as last year.

While nearly 2/3 of US Internet users regularly use a social network of some sort. Facebook is the most popular and largely growing one. No matter what age bracket, we are all going social.

With the effect of Social Media on consumers and the impact it can make on a decision to purchase a vehicle is dramatically huge now.  So why wait around? It will be too late if you do.

Social Media is just not created to play around it has real business value for your dealership. Social Media was the leading “Emerging Channel” for lead generation for the year 2010. With that in mind, Social Media conversations actively influence purchases.

Among all the benefits out there with digital marketing, 63% of companies using Social Media say it has increased marketing effectiveness – among the other benefits social media has provided.

Engaging with the Social Media world and your consumers is a beneficial impact of their purchasing decision and why they should come to you.  With 61% of US Marketers using social media has been used to increase lead generation.

The bottom line to your dealerships online success is going Social & having the right team help you manage it for you.

Take a gander at these dealers for they have went to the next level with our services & did not wait around to go Social.
